Auberge Resorts Collection has announced that it will assume management of luxury resort Mukul (Mayan for “secret”) in Nicaragua later this month. First launched in 2013 and spread across 1,670 acres of white sand and coastal forests, the 37-room resort emphasizes the nation’s biodiversity and rich culture.
Jeff Jensen, principal designer for New York-based HKS Architects, led the design in collaboration with Frank Butler and Song Chia of Dallas-based firm FAB Studio, landscape architects SWA, and Dallas-based interior design practice Paul Duesing Partners. Featured among the 37 accommodations are 12 beach villas, private one- and two-bedroom suites spanning between 2,000 and 4,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space. Villas also include private swimming pools and gardens, wraparound decks, outdoor showers, floor-to-ceiling windows, and custom furnishings. Bathrooms are appointed with freestanding soaking tubs and monsoon showers.
Mukul’s 23 luxurious treehouses are situated within the hillside forests overlooking the resort and constructed with sustainable teak and pine. Each 620-square-foot space boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and wraparound decks with private plunge pools. Casona Don Carlos, the private onsite beach house, spans 20,000 square feet with an expansive indoor-outdoor living area, 80-foot-tall ceilings, a private swimming pool, and six bedroom suites—two of which are equipped with wraparound stone terraces.
Among the four onsite F&B options is the Latin-themed La Mesa; the alfresco venue La Terraza; the beachside Palapa Lounge; and the dramatic Tres Ceibas. Additional amenities include the Spa Mukul and the 18-hole, David McLay Kidd-designed Guacalito Golf Course.
