Texas-based space tourism company Orion Span has released the design for Aurora Station, which is proposed to become the first hotel in space. Slated for a 2022 opening, the $97 million hotel will welcome travelers 200 miles above Earth. Frank Eichstadt, who is known for his contributions to the design of the International Space Station’s (ISS) Enterprise module, will spearhead the design of Aurora Station, which may be outfitted to include residences at a future date.
The hotel will be designed to accommodate four guests as well as two crew members over the course of 12 days. The program is currently priced at approximately $9.3 million per person, and guests will also be required to partake in a certification program that includes an online course and a visit to Orion Span’s headquarters in Houston, Texas ahead of the trip. In addition to taking part in research, guests will experience zero gravity and will be able to float throughout the hotel.
