New York-based designer Kelly Wearstler has unveiled her newest project, Austin Proper hotel. Home to 244 guestrooms and 79 suites, as well as 99 luxury Proper-branded residences, the interiors of the LEED Gold-certified property is crafted in the designer’s signature striking style while also reflecting the influences of the area’s craftsmanship-based homes and Art Nouveau.
Wrapped in more than 60 conjoined vintage carpets, a monolithic wooden staircase serves as a key focal point in the modern lobby. Echoing the history of the building, the inviting space is accented with artwork from locally based ceramicist Rick Van Dyke. The bold hotel’s F&B concepts include the elegant cocktail spot Goldie’s Sunken Bar, and cozy eatery Peacock Mediterranean Grill. In addition, the Mockingbird Coffee and Falafel & Rotisserie are slated to open later this month, while the sunny poolside venue La Piscina Fajitas & Ceviches will debut in spring in tandem with a sumptuous spa.
