Starwood Capital Group has announced the debut of the new Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York, the first hotel and global flagship for the Baccarat crystal brand.
Designed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the hotel occupies the first 12 floors of the 550-foot split-level and houses 114 rooms and suites. New York-based designer Tony Ingrao led the residential design of the tower’s 60 private residences, which will have access to all hotel amenities.
Drawing upon Baccarat’s classic French aesthetic, Paris-based interior design firm Gilles & Boissier conceptualized the hotel interiors. True to the Baccarat brand, a 125-foot wide corrugated crystal-like curtain veils the hotel’s lower levels.
“We are so thrilled to bring life to the new ‘House of Baccarat,’” says Barry Sternlicht, chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group. “We waited and found the perfect location to launch our first hotel. Our designs pay respect to our neighbors in the property’s simple exterior, but we add drama with other details, including a 4-foot high, always-burning fireplace representing the furnaces in our manufacturing facilities at Baccarat, France. In the lobby, guests will be mesmerized by a 20-by-25-foot wall adorned with more than 2,000 of Baccarat’s most iconic glasses—the Harcourt. Each custom-sized glass has been laid horizontally and lit by an LED light to create a 24-hour light show.”
The hotel features a 50-foot indoor pool, an elite fitness training facility, and the first Spa de La Mer in the U.S. Guests and residents can choose from multiple dining options, such as Chevalier—a French restaurant headed by Michelin-starred executive chef Shea Gallante—or the Bar at Baccarat, which features barrel-vaulted ceilings, a 60-foot bar, and an outdoor terrace overlooking the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Cheavlier features interiors designed by New York-based Stephen Sills Associates.
