San Francisco-based interior design firm BAMO has completed work on guestroom restorations for the Terranea Resort along the coastline of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Blending contemporary influences with the traditional Spanish Colonial styles of Santa Barbara, the upgrades to the premium and standard guestrooms as well as the Shearwater and Vanderlip suites reflect the casual elegance of beachside California.
Premium guestrooms mingle classic details with modern forms. Wood and mirrored millwork panels are integrated with new technology and provide a rich backdrop for a new Spanish-style dresser and rounded travertine table. A leather upholstered headboard is detailed with nailhead trim, while wrought-iron wall sconces maintain the Spanish theme.
Standard rooms are updated with modern elements, including a plush chaise, updated casegoods with new hardware and stone tops, and artwork from painter Laura Fayer. Wood headboards and nightstands in dark tones contrast subtly striped wallcoverings, providing a contemporary backdrop for Spanish-style desks and chairs.
The oceanfront Shearwater suite is outfitted with crisp white walls fixed with large abstract artwork. Warm wood tones and textural materials complement the coastal palette of neutral hues, terracotta, and deep aqua. The master bedroom is home to deeper tones with grasscloth wallcoverings layered behind California claro walnut nightstands, vintage mirrors, and a wood and bronze leather upholstered screen that forms the headboard. A private patio is included.
The residentially informed Vanderlip suite mixes bold contemporary artwork with Spanish-style elements including a carved wood console. The living room is appointed with gilded, carved wood brackets fashioned as wall sconces, while bleached oak wood flooring accentuates warm coastal tones throughout. Glass-paneled doors lead to the dining room, where a pair of dramatic ombré mirror panels flank an oversized painting. More glass-paneled doors lead to a study with a seating area connected to the master bedroom. Walls are clad with modern wood veneer wallcoverings that offset cream upholstery. A Spanish-style desk and an updated fireplace and hearth in buff limestone and travertine are also included.
