Singapore-based Banyan Tree Group has announced plans to expand its global footprint with the rollout of five properties in Japan. Two recently opened units—Dhawa Yura Kyoto and Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto—mark Banyan Tree’s arrival in the country, and the remaining three units are set to open now through 2026.
“We are pleased with our strategic entry into Japan, in line with the government’s recent decision to ease international tourism into the country. Just in time to announce the openings of Dhawa and Garrya, in addition to the new partnerships that will expand our multi-branded portfolio,” says Banyan Tree Group president and CEO Eddy See. “Kyoto is an unmistakable great start for Banyan Tree Group’s foray into Japan, with its natural healing springs, vast history, and abundant culture. Our upcoming locations and beyond will provide signature standards of service and diversified programming that will serve as a benchmark for all future Banyan Tree Group locations in Japan.”
Deeply rooted in the history of the city, the 138-room Dhawa Yura Kyoto features an interior design that references the Edo era of Japan, as well as amenities like an 8lement Spa. Meanwhile, the 25-room Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto occupies a small footprint before Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was first constructed in the early 17th century. Lush greenery, a meditative lobby, an onsite French restaurant, and a wellbeing room for exercise and yoga round out the hotel’s amenities.
Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto will join the fold in spring 2024 with 52 keys upon a hilltop in the Gion and Higashiyama district. The urban resort will also be the only hotel in Kyoto to include a Noh stage. Arriving in 2025, Cassia Hirafu will attract skiers in the alpine destination with a 50-key resort and a 113-key residential development ranging from one-bedroom accommodations to villas. Finally, the luxury Banyan Tree Ashinoko Hakone resort will frame views of Mount Fuji from a historic plot adjacent in Lake Ashino in 2026.
