The all-pool villa resort Banyan Tree Mayakoba on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s famed Riviera Maya is set to undergo a thorough expansion and renovation led by Mexico City-based Sordo Madaleno Architects. The project will add 40 new keys to the property including six over-water villas and 34 suites upon completion in late 2020. Also included in the expansion is the Sands Beach Club, which will comprise two expanded oceanfront pools and an all-day dining concept.
Three new lodging configurations will debut following the revamp as well. The beachfront Sunrise pool suites will overlook turquoise waters and feature king beds and private solariums outfitted with private plunge pools. Beachfront pool suites will be outfitted with interior patios, outdoor showers, and a private solarium endowed with a heated plunge pool. Finally, the Lagoon Sunset pool villas will span two stories, have an open layout with an indoor-outdoor atmosphere, and spacious bedrooms complete with outdoor showers, whirlpool bathtubs, private solariums, and plunge pools.
