San Diego-based Untitled Hospitality is continuing its endeavor to repurpose the city’s former Naval Training Center in the mixed-used Liberty Station neighborhood. Following the successful launch of its art–hospitality hybrid ARTS DISTRICT, the project is being taken one step further with the addition of the Barracks Hotel.
“With The Barracks Hotel, we’re taking an unconventional approach in reviving Liberty Station’s deep-rooted history,” says Untitled Hospitality CEO Robert Cartwright. “We believe the best way to honor the past is to make it personally relevant in the present.”
The Barracks Hotel at Liberty Station will immerse visitors in the artistic process with every space from the lobby and gardens to the pool deck and more than 90 guestrooms featuring curated, site-specific artwork. The $20-million build-out will restore eight of the ten remaining buildings up for historic preservation within the neighborhood. Chris Bittner of local firm obrArchitecture will oversee the design and construction of the property.
Construction is expected to be fully underway by mid-2017 with an estimated completion date of late 2018.
