London-based design studio Holloway Li is set to unveil its first major hotel project, Bermonds Locke, in mid-September 2020. Located in Bermondsey, U.K., the sustainable urban retreat will evoke a home-meets-hotel ethos that also channels the spiritual splendor of California locales like the Mojave Desert.
Guests will be welcomed by a moonlit reception area featuring a glittering mirage installation inspired by artist Olafur Eliasson’s Sun that will instill an artful sense of psychedelia across the otherwise contemporary atmosphere. The desert-inspired aesthetic will include a color palette of blue, beige, and gray hues on upper floors, while saturated notes of vibrant red will bedeck the lower levels. Soft lighting will permeate through the hotel’s spacious coworking environments, which will be punctuated by swing chairs, concrete banquettes, and suspended planters.
Each of the 143 guestrooms will be conceived as an individual studio in order to comfortably host visitors for one night up to three months with amenities like a functional kitchen and laundry. Bespoke bedframes woven from blackened rebar and accented by linen canopies anchor the spaces as a sanctuary amid the urban bustle.
