Lark Hotels has introduced the seventh property in its Bluebird by Lark collection. Designed by collaborators Elder & Ash, the Bluebird Lake Placid in New York departs from the region’s classic Adirondack styles.
The 90-room lakeside retreat is instead distinguished by a fusion of Scandinavian and Japanese design sensibilities dubbed “Japandi.” “Taking inspirations from both styles and combining the rustic with minimalism to create a space for our guests that feels connected with nature’s natural elements, neutral colors, and design-focused pieces,” says Elder & Ash interiors associate Tory Knoph. “We highlighted existing and new architectural elements with the space as well to give it a cozy yet grand feel.”
Pine wall paneling and floors nod to the interiors of other Bluebird hotels, while interventions like wool wallcoverings and neutral tones reflect the landscapes of Lake Placid.
Alpine influences will also abound later this year when bar and tasting room Après Only opens. The concept will reinterpret classic ski culture through a lens of 1980s nostalgia. Clean lines and minimalist details throughout the space will also reflect the “Japandi” inspiration.
This fusion of design influences is also embodied in Bluebird Lake Placid’s accommodations, which span eight configurations, via slatted wood walls that partition bedrooms and living areas.
“We want our guests to feel at home and a sense of space and warmth,” adds Lark Hotels founder and president Rob Blood. “People often confuse minimal with stark, and the design of our hotel is anything but stark. We use natural materials, organic textiles, fabric wallcoverings, and pull in lots of natural light to create a feeling of openness but also coziness.”
