The Jesse has debuted as the first boutique hotel in Reno, Nevada. Designed by San Francisco-based firm Studio BBA, the six-bedroom concept defies the conventional aesthetic of the desert gaming locale with a colorful spin on the historic site, which was first constructed in 1907. Hotelier Piper Stremmel also contributed to the interiors, drawing inspiration from her portfolio of luxury brands, including Ritz-Carlton and Marriott.
Custom plywood beds anchor the modish spaces in each guestroom, adorned with artwork sourced from the Stremmel Gallery. The ground floor of the property is home to a bar and the Mexican restaurant Estella, which is attached to an outdoor “urban environment” doubling as a private event space. The geometry of the bar is refined and playful—crafted as a contrast to the weathered surroundings of Reno, and features a sunny ceramic backsplash, as well as a subtle beadboard wainscot. Accessible through the main gate, a central courtyard functions as the main hub of the Jesse, while its brick-laid patio is populated with furnishings adorned with colors associated with the nature of Reno.
