Nestled on Madrid’s iconic Gran Vía, Evok Collection’s Brach Madrid emerges as a poetic fusion of place and vision. The 57-key hotel, designed by Philippe Starck, marks the brand’s second venture outside France.
The property occupies a restored seven-story 1920s structure by architect Jerónimo Pedro Mathet Rodriguez that features a white stone façade, original wrought-iron staircase, lofty windows, and balconies.
Starck’s design infuses what he calls “modern nostalgia” into every space, drawing on the contrasts of Spanish culture: earthy and ethereal, rustic and refined.
Guestrooms with soul
The 53 guestrooms and four suites tell the imagined story of a man’s love for a woman, expressed through personal objects, sketches, and travel notes arranged around leather headboards and jatoba woodwork.
Decorative elements range from castanets to statuettes, seahorse sconces, and wickerwork, paired with bright tassels that nod to Spanish dance costumes.
Bathrooms feature breccia stone floors and mirrors framed in glazed terracotta with botanical and abstract swirls.
Dining at Brach Madrid
The Brach restaurant, envisioned as a grand ’20s Madrid café, layers mahogany-paneled walls, woven-leather ceilings, and tilted brasserie mirrors that allow guests to see and be seen.
An open kitchen pulses at its heart, topped by a mural inspired by the movement of flames. A display case of eclectic paintings imagines the tradition of artists paying for meals with their work, adding to the space’s narrative depth.
Situated within the restaurant is a cocktail bar that references Spanish village cafés with balloon-like straw-wrapped bottles, along with a vintage-inspired pâtisserie featuring white enamel stands that display classic French pastries.
Elevated wellness
La Capsule, a 4,305-square-foot wellness space, contrasts the hotel’s grounded materiality with pure white minimalism.
The sanctuary features a pool, hyperbaric chamber, flotation bath, ice bath, infrared sauna, and treatments by myBlend and Clarins.
