The Four Seasons Hotel Tunis has debuted along the Mediterranean Sea in the Gammarth neighborhood of the Tunisian capital. San Francisco-based design firm BraytonHughes Design Studios oversaw the project, which exudes 5-Star elegance through a charming North African lens. Simple fabrics and furnishings appear in response to the refined, yet casual vernacular of the region.
A grand dome hovers above the mosaic floors of the lobby, which is also anchored by a sculpture from artist Yahya. Locally sourced stone and tile are installed throughout along with simple brick, plaster, and wood. All 203 guestrooms are mirrored after simplistic, romantic homes of North Africa, with stone floors and lightly colored plaster walls. Cool, open rooms are endowed with contemporary divans, locally crafted area rugs, and regionally inspired artwork. Each standard room features a living area, bedroom, fully sized terraces, and oversized full baths.
Like the rest of the hotel, the spa is designed with sensitivity to the local terrain, complete with classic Islamic-style arches, Tunisian black and white tiled columns, plaster and wood architecture, and details reminiscent of the location’s hillside towns. Included among the four onsite eateries are the casual all-day concept Azur; the Creek Bistro & the Creek Lounge on the top floor; the casually sophisticated, beachside Blu Bar & Grill. The lobby lounge Salon Alyssa is also included.
