NU Hotel Brooklyn in New York has incorporated local art into 15 of its guestrooms through NU Perspectives, a program that allows artists to use the walls as their canvas.
The 93-room boutique hotel began the NU Perspectives Project in 2012 when three local artists were invited to use the guestroom walls to paint floor to ceiling murals. Now, the recently renovated hotel has a total of 15 guestrooms displaying full walls of original works of art. The four latest rooms are by local Brooklyn artists Saroj Patel, Natalie Lomeli, Laura Hollick , and Michael Sorgatz.
Room 403 by Patel is covered in layers of bright flora and fauna. The illustrative style of this room gives it a vibrant and energetic feel. Lomeli completed room 406, featuring two large abstract murals where cool gradients in hues of green, blue, and purple create a soothing, dynamic vibe.
With two large trees that reach to the very top of the ceiling, Hollick’s work in room 207 brings the outdoors inside. And Sorgatz featured various abstracted mixed media paintings on panel and wood with different views of Brooklyn in room 404. These sculptural paintings sit approximately 3 inches off the wall and add a feeling of urban creativity.
