A historical 17th-century church in the central business district of Cape Town has been revitalized as boutique hotel concept Labotessa. Debuting next month, the intimate, seven-room property is designed and operated by first-time hoteliers Johan Du Plessis and Jan Fourie.
Labotessa demonstrates a blend of Old World elegance with contemporary style, punctuated by artwork and furnishings from local artisans and antique furniture that reflect the European influence on the city of Cape Town. An antique balustrade guides visitors from reception to the mezzanine, overlooking the classic fireplace, original chandelier, and plush velvet armchairs.
Outfitted with unique configurations, each of the seven accommodations frame views of the Table Mountain. Measuring at 400 square feet, rooms are appointed with Persian rugs and adorned with a palette of petrol blue, warm taupe, and burnt orange. High ceilings and French oak floors are installed along with blue subway tiles and Calacatta marble in the bathrooms. The Governor suite arrives as one of the largest penthouse spaces in Cape Town at 3,230 square feet. Crowning the hotel, the two-floor suite is equipped with a floating staircase and private plunge pool.
