Hiroshima, Japan-based design studio Fathom has completed the new Miyanishi Yakeyama salon in Kure, Japan, inspired by the animated Hayao Miyazaki film Castle in the Sky, especially the floating island of Laputa that is depicted in the movie.
The film’s floating airships informed the use of camouflage patterns adorning the cloud-like partitions within the space. White tones and mirrors are used to enlarge the interior, while greenery is installed and framed to anchor the theme of Laputa. Copper piping also lines the ceilings along with three twin fans reminiscent of propellers.
