New York-based studio Champalimaud has revealed the contemporary design for Delta Toronto. Delta Hotels & Resorts’ 567-room flagship hotel is set to open on November 27th.
The firm spearheaded the interiors of the ground-up project, including the lobby, ballroom, meeting rooms, pool, fitness center, public spaces, and guestrooms, in addition to Canadian whisky bar, Char No. 5.
Set in the heart of Toronto’s Southcore financial district, the property features grand spaces with high ceilings, while within the lobby, white oak walls and travertine floors provide a modern feel. Sleek black granite in the lobby’s whisky bar juxtaposes with its plush materials and fabrics.
“The strong art culture in Toronto provides much of the inspiration for the hotel’s design,” says Alexandra Champalimaud, the firm’s founder and principal designer. “We wanted there to be a fresh, modern, and informed vibe, which when anchored with the expressive and newly commissioned art pieces, create a dynamic and vibrant space that ensures guests to feel young at heart.”
“Our goal at Champalimaud was to create a cultural experience for guests through design,” adds Jon Kastl, principal designer at Champalimaud. “The hotel’s contemporary, youthful, yet sophisticated aesthetic—visible throughout the property’s public and private spaces—celebrates both the city’s heritage and transformation.”
