Commune Hotels + Resorts has debuted the Cape, its first Thompson Hotels branded property in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Owned in partnership with Vertex Real Estate Investors and Pentz & Partners, the six-story hotel blends the brand’s signature urban aesthetic with a retro 1960s California-meets-Baja vibe.
“As our first Thompson resort property, the Cape embodies the brand’s urban edge, while also organically integrating the scenery unique to the Los Cabos destination,” says Niki Leondakis, Commune’s CEO.
Mexican architect Javier Sánchez of JSa Arquitectura designed the site with interior designer Marisabel Gómez Vázquez of Madrid-based Arquitectura de Interiores, and Mexican ceramicist Jose Noé Suro.
The property seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces with an open-air layout. Guests also have unobstructed views of the area’s most well-known geological landmark, the Arch.
Wrought-iron gates lead guests to large-scale Richard Serra-inspired concrete sculptures flanking the hotel lobby. Found throughout public spaces and 161 guestrooms, deep black concrete ceilings juxtapose with natural elements and custom-designed, midcentury modern furnishings. A sunken lobby features an Art Deco-inspired bar backdrop bespoked with mirrors.
Guests may choose from one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites or villas with various amenities, such as binoculars for whale watching, cotton kimono robes, and a custom tequila selection.
A 2015 James Beard Foundation Award finalist, chef Enrique Olvera oversees the hotel’s 114-seat signature restaurant Manta, which includes an expansive outdoor terrace, handcarved wooden entry doors, an exhibition-style kitchen backed by a copper-finished wall, and ocean views. Additional F&B offerings include the all-glass Look, a rooftop open-air lounge; the casual, beach house-inspired Ledge restaurant; and the lobby lounge.
Further amenities include two pools, a rooftop lounge, a spa with two private outdoor cabanas, a fitness center, and various F&B outlets.
