Restoration efforts at the Waldorf Astoria New York have moved into their second phase, Anbang Insurance Group announced earlier this month. Slated for completion in 2021, upgrades to the famed hotel—New York’s largest private interior landmark—will impact both hotel and residential components. Overseen by global infrastructure firm AECOM, the project includes SOM at the helm of the redesign as the architect, while Pierre Yves-Rochon leads interior redesign efforts. Upon completion, the property will be endowed with roughly 350 condominium units as well as an estimated 350 new guestrooms and suites. Guestrooms will average 650 square feet.
“The Anbang team is incredibly proud of the tremendous work accomplished so far at Waldorf Astoria New York, as we now enter the next phase of the building’s historic revitalization,” says Anbang International executive director of real estate development for the U.S. Andrew Miller. “AECOM Tishman has been an exceptional partner during initial construction, and we look forward to working alongside them to carry out one of the most extensive restoration and renovation projects in New York City’s history. Anbang understands the magnitude and responsibility of this project and remains committed to delivering an exceptional property befitting of the Waldorf Astoria name. We are confident that AECOM Tishman is the firm to help us do just that.”
