After recently purchasing the property, Delamar Hotels has reopened Newfane, Vermont’s The Four Columns Inn.
Opened in 1965 as a guesthouse that was operated by Rene and Pierrette Chardain, the property featured the first authentic farm-to-table experience in the U.S., which garnered the Inn notoriety. After being sold in 1981, the Inn was exchanged hands various times until closing two years ago.
Easily accessible from major nearby cities like New York, Boston, and Hartford, Connecticut, the 16-room hotel features updated accommodations with oversized bathrooms, soaking tubs, and fireplaces. Throughout the Inn, an art collection curated by Diane Birdsall of Old Lyme, Connecticut-based Diane Birdsall Gallery comprises work from local New England artists.
New amenities were also added, such as a wellness center and spa, the Artisan Restaurant & Tavern, and event space. Guests uniquely have access, when available, to the Hermitage Resort—a private club community in Wilmington, Vermont that offers private mountain activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and 18-hole golf on a Desmond Muirhead-designed course.
