Belgian-born architect Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston has been tapped to helm the design of the Island at AMAALA, a luxury destination on Saudi Arabia’s northwestern coast. The project will aim to curate transformative personal journeys inspired by the art, purity, and wellness of the Red Sea.
The Island—one of AMAALA’s three communities—will consist of a contemporary art museum, a Riviera-style artists’ colony, and opportunities for art and sculpture co-creation. There will also be venues for permanent installation, temporary exhibition, and performance, as well as an Arabic botanical garden.
The entire development is set for completion in 2030.
