The design team for the $960 million MGM Springfield in Springfield, Massachusetts has been revealed. Slated to debut in the third quarter of 2018, the integrated resort will span 250 accommodations and include interiors inspired by the heritage of western Massachusetts and famed natives such as Emily Dickinson.
Leading the design of all guestrooms and suites, MGM Resorts Design & Development will join forces with six firms from across the U.S. for the public spaces. Las Vegas-based firm Friedmutter Group, which conceived the masterplan and exterior design, will serve as the design architect and the architect of record. The firm will also craft the aesthetic of the resort’s casino floor and all nightlife and bar spaces. Locally based Specs Design Group will design the casino’s poker area, as well as retail and employee areas.
Amenities including the Tap Sports Bar and the onsite 10-lane bowling alley, arcade, and restaurant will be crafted by Costa Mesa, California-based Studio McCormack, while Washington, DC-based firm Marshall Moya Design will spearhead the design of the hotel spa. Los Angeles-based Avenue Interior Design will oversee the development of the hotel lobby and the onsite Italian restaurant, while Los Angeles-based practice Bishop Pass will oversee the completion of an elegant steakhouse and the South End Market.
