The Dorchester Collection has reopened the Hotel Eden in Rome following an 18-month renovation. Bruno Moinard and Claire Betaille of Paris architecture firm 4BI & Associates, together with Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku from Paris-based Jouin Manku, oversaw the renovation, comprising 98 spacious guestrooms and suites, two F&B concepts, and the hotel’s first urban spa and blow-dry bar.
The hotel features ample natural light, high ceilings, and tall windows that frame the Roman skyline. The arrival experience explores the relationship between old and new with furnishings that showcase an array of design eras. Golden details infuse warmth across the space alongside fresco paintings from Gio Bressana and red ochre and gray stucco marble. Black, white, and gray marble floors add a modern sensibility, while the reception area and lobby lounge embrace an authentic Roman design with two large steles standing in for reception desks. A large fresco is also installed above the lobby fireplace.
The hotel’s room count was reduced from 121 to 98 to allow for roomier accommodations. Inspired by Roman baths, bathrooms are decorated in white and gold and feature mosaics, marble vanities, walk-in showers, and separate bathtubs. Crowning the hotel is the 1930s- and ’40s-inspired Bellavista penthouse suite, which maximizes city views with floor-to-ceiling windows and houses a study, living room, dining room, and master bedroom.
The top floor is home to the Mediterranean concept La Terrazza, which highlights traditional Italian craftsmanship with high-gloss varnished wood and lighting. The all-day restaurant Il Giardino Ristorante & Bar was conceived as an abstract vertical garden with a large, green wall comprising glass and metal foliage. A communal table and terracotta and soft stone shades add warmth.
The Eden Spa—the hotel’s first urban spa—and blow-dry bar embrace historic Roman Bath architecture boasting three suites and a manicure-pedicure station. Three meeting rooms were also refurbished.
