Colorado’s Dunton Hot Springs, part of Relais & Chateaux, has emerged from a comprehensive multimillion-dollar renovation.
Spanning three years, the sequenced project—led by London design firm Waldo Works and Christina Rossi, Dunton’s director of interior design and managing partner—revitalized the luxury mountain resort’s iconic 19th-century structures while preserving its authentic Wild West spirit.
The Saloon and Dance Hall
The redesigned Saloon and Dance Hall anchors the property with a fresh culinary focus and an open, welcoming layout. A custom-built range now sits at the heart of the Saloon, supporting an immersive and intimate dining experience.
The adjoining Dance Hall showcases a new wine cellar, expanded gathering areas, and layered lighting that honors the building’s historical roots. Preserving the soul of the space, the original bar—complete with Butch Cassidy’s carved signature—remains untouched.
Upstairs, a private dining and lounge space, designed in collaboration with Cabana founder and editor in chief Martina Mondadori, is layered with handcrafted materials, modern pieces, and Western antiques.
Chuck’s Cabin at Dunton Hot Springs
One of the original structures, the 130-year-old Chuck’s Cabin was restored. Its original hand-hewn log walls are now complemented by a wide-plank oak floor, warm natural textures, and custom-built furniture.
The four-bedroom, multi-level layout features a top-floor king suite equipped with a soaking tub and a spacious rain shower tiled in turquoise blue. In the cozy living room, a wood-burning stove sits against large windows framing serene views of the Dolores River and the surrounding mountains.
Major Ross and Well House
The Major Ross Cabin merges rustic heritage with bold modern interiors, utilizing textured fabrics, sculptural lighting, and custom furnishings to create a warm mountain retreat.
Meanwhile, the Well House—celebrated for its hot spring and cold plunge—received behind-the-scenes infrastructure upgrades alongside a décor refresh for a seamless bathing experience.
Potter House
Concluding the multi-year transformation, the expansive Potter House underwent a redesign of its bathrooms and soft goods.
Spearheaded internally by Rossi, the five-bedroom accommodation offers sweeping wilderness views and expansive living areas.
