The El San Juan Hotel & Casino in Puerto Rico will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation that will require a temporary closure. The hotel will reopen in early 2017 with upgrades to its guestrooms, pool deck, public spaces, dining options, and spa and fitness facilities.
“The updates will pay homage to the historical status of this property as an iconic luxury lifestyle and entertainment resort, while incorporating a playfully elegant feeling to the modernized setting,” says Andro Nodarse-León of León Mayer & Co., one of the owners and asset manager of the resort.
Originally designed by architects Morris Lapidus and Max Borges, the landmark 387-room hotel first opened in 1957. Located in Puerto Rico’s Isla Verde district, guestrooms overlook two miles of beach. The property includes an 11,000-square-foot ballroom, three pools, nine onsite restaurants, 15 bars, a nightclub, a 7,500-square-foot casino, and 12 acres on Isla Verde beach.
