The first Equinox Hotel is set to open this June at 35 Hudson Yards in New York. Designed by David Childs and SOM, the property will embody the future of New York and include additional outdoor spaces crafted by locally based Ken Smith Workshop as well as interiors conceived by Rockwell Group. Home to 212 guestrooms, including 48 suites, the hotel will also emphasize the importance of wellness and sleep with accommodations equipped with total soundproofing and blackout window systems.
“In hospitality, lifestyle hotels have grown up and luxury hotels have gotten younger in their outlook and experience. Now, as health becomes the new wealth, Equinox is uniquely positioned to define an emerging category that is disrupting the entire industry. Equinox is the market leader and authority on fitness as lifestyle, and we are bringing our decades of experience to create the ultimate high-performance luxury lifestyle hotels,” said Chris Norton, CEO of Equinox Hotels. “Redefining the concept of luxury as the ultimate in experience, we are uniquely qualified to deliver what this new consumer wants, encompassing world-class service and design with unparalleled fitness offerings.”
A centerpiece of the onsite amenities will be the Joyce Wang-designed Equinox Fitness Club and Spa, which, at 60,000 square feet, is the largest in the company’s portfolio. The space will include a 25-yard indoor saltwater pool, as well as hot and cold plunge pools, an outdoor leisure pool, and an 8,000-square-foot terrace attached to the hotel’s restaurant and bar.
