Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will assume management of the historic Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. The crescent-shaped hotel, originally designed by Minoru Yamasaki, will undergo an extensive $2.5 billion overhaul from New York-based Pei Cobb Freed, locally based Marmol Radziner, Toronto-based Yabu Pushelberg, and Gensler. The mixed-use development will reopen as the Fairmont Century Plaza in 2018.
The redevelopment project will include approximately 394 guestroom and 63 branded residences within the original structure, as well as two new 46-story residential towers. The towers will host 290 luxury residences and an estimated 100,000 square feet of boutique shopping and expanded parking. The hotel’s renowned lobby will be linked to a series of public plazas and fountains across two acres of open gardens, surrounded by restaurants and retail.
The property is surrounded by more than 10 million square feet of offices, residences, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment venues.
