Following a multimillion-dollar renovation, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has reopened the historic Claremont Club & Spa, A Fairmont Hotel in Berkeley, California.
Overlooking San Francisco Bay, the 276-room hotel was constructed in 1915 at the base of the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve and features castle-like architecture.
“For a century, Claremont Club & Spa has been welcoming guests as one of Northern California’s most revered hotels, so it has been an honor for Fairmont to take on this heritage hotel’s restoration and reintroduction as a Fairmont property,” says Kevin Frid, president of the Americas for FRHI Hotels & Resorts. “Growth continues to be one of our top priorities.”
The project augmented the lobby’s sightline with bay views, while hardwood floors throughout were restored and complemented with new carpets. Book-matched mahogany, transitional furnishings, contemporary art, and leather upholstery now create a warm atmosphere with bold and colorful accents.
“This fabled hotel recollects another era and gently pulls it into the present day,” says Kirk Nix, founder of Los Angeles-based KNA Design, which completed the lobby, lobby lounge and bar, as well as a new restaurant. “A spectacular update initiated by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts as part of the new ownership has revived this iconic property…her legacy will continue to stand for decades to come.”
Gensler conceived the hotel’s 276 redesigned guestrooms and new presidential suite.
Amenities include a spa and club facility that features a kids’ pool, as well as a tennis and fitness center; an estimated 20,000 square feet of meeting space, which encompasses the 450-person Empire ballroom; a private social and tennis club; three existing restaurants and lounges; and a new brasserie that will debut early next year.
