Melbourne-based BAR Studio has been appointed to lead the design of Fairmont Tokyo, the luxury brand’s first property in Japan. Slated to open in 2025 across the upper levels of the Shibaura Project’s South Tower, the contemporary urban destination will be defined by a restrained elegance and a light, refreshing ambiance that reinforces the allure of the surrounding waterfront district.
Conceived with sophisticated urbanites in mind, Fairmont Tokyo will boast a bespoke design across numerous social spaces that position the property as a new lifestyle hub. Collaborations with local cultural institutions will further forge a sense of place in the hotel, from amenities to artwork. “By bringing art, craft, and provenance to the forefront of the hotel, we aim to curate a mosaic of locally inspired guest experiences,” says BAR Studio project design director Lucas Chirnside.
In addition to 219 accommodations, Fairmont Tokyo will be home to flagship restaurants and bars, meeting and event facilities, a spa, fitness center, swimming pool, and a rooftop wedding chapel.
