The Fairmont Washington, DC, Georgetown has unveiled its $27 million renovation from New York’s Wimberly Interiors and ForrestPerkins.
Phase I of the refresh entailed upgrades to all 413 guestrooms and the conversion of the executive forum amphitheater into the 2,900-square-foot Kennedy Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 300 guests. Wimberly Interiors’ redesign focuses on the city’s politics and power with eclectic, modern furnishings mingling with classic pieces. King guestrooms feature chaise lounges and round tables. Additional guestroom upgrades include the installation of two queen beds in each double guestroom and the expansion to seven specialty suites.
The Fairmont Gold floor features a dark wooded entry and carpeting and fabrics with modernized yet classical patterns. Luggage benches, walk-in showers, and expansive vanities offer a cozy, residential quality.
Amanda Jackson of Dallas-basead ForrestPerkins led Phase II of the project, drawing inspiration from a geometric aerial view of the city in the lobby design. The reception desk features an abstracted map of DC in gold tones with brushed, polished, and satin finishes. Sprinkled with small lights, mixed metals descending from the ceiling all bear similar geometrics, as do the fabrics and furniture throughout the space. A color palette of blue, emerald, and neutral tones fills the interior of the lobby and bar. The U-shaped bar is anchored by a grand staircase, seating up to 16 guests.
The courtyard has been leveled to accommodate larger events and includes two new water features. Café tables have been installed beneath a canopy of cherry trees, and contemporary lounge furniture placed around fire pits as well to ensure comfort across the seasons.
