The Market Street Hotel has opened at the intersection of the Old and New towns of Edinburgh, Scotland. With interiors crafted by Amsterdam-based studio FG Stijl, and an architectural design overseen by the local firm, jmarchitects, the 98-room hotel embodies the hybrid style of its location through a layered composition.
Baronial-inspired guestrooms comprise a palette of organic materials such as oak and stone, featuring locally handcrafted furnishings. Conceived as anterooms, luxurious bathrooms are lined with marble, solid stone basins, and rainfall showers.
The interior design of the authentic property features locally sourced white stone cladding mirrors recalling the city’s weathered slate roofs, while the stone roofscape offers a counterpoint to the surrounding urban setting. The cracked, earthen walls inside are paired with clean minimalism and contemporary furniture. A tapestry of wood, stone, glazed bricks, soft wallcoverings, wool, and tartan abound across the fortress-like interiors, where traditional Scottish motifs are reimagined into innovative focal points like the five floating copper fireplaces replicating the first notes of “The Flower of Scotland.” Housed across the seventh floor, the rooftop champagne lounge frames panoramic views of the city.
