New York firm Fogarty Finger has been commissioned by real estate investment company the Moinian Group to design interiors for a new boutique hotel in Lower Manhattan. Located on Platt Street, straddling the Financial District and the historic South Street Seaport, the forthcoming 172-room property is set to open early 2022.
Drawing upon the neighborhood’s storied past, along with its cobblestone streets, antique brickwork, and industrial metalwork, the hotel’s design will incorporate large-scale red marble terrazzo floors, backlit fluted wood walls, and steelwork that defines both a canopy bar and striking staircase. On the ground floor, guests will be greeted by self-check-in kiosks and both retail and lounge spaces. Furthermore, a mezzanine and cellar—bathed in a palette of limestone, deep green, and rustic crimson brick—will supplement the ground level and accommodate coworking, conference, and fitness amenities.
Efficiently laid out accommodations will maximize their modest footprint with functional elements like foldout desks and a shelf housing a mini fridge, safe, and charging stations. The yacht-like chambers will feature integrated millwork, rounded corners, and reconfigurable storage, while indirect ambient lighting infuses the illusion of openness and warmth.
