Gensler has completed the Hotel San Luis Obispo, the latest property in the Piazza Hospitality‘s portfolio. Nestled between two historic volumes in the downtown corridor of the California locale, the hotel evokes a laidback flair reflective of the setting.
Greeting the visitors, the lobby is crafted with warm wood, and punctuated with custom paper artwork from Matthew Picton. Rusted steel columns partition the space from the bar lounge, as the polished concrete floors and blackened steel reception desk stand out as key features. The hotel’s signature F&B concepts Piadina and Ox + Anchor also flank the entrance. The Italian concept Piadina recalls beach bonfires with interior shades of light ash wood and terracotta tones, while Ox + Anchor steakhouse evokes a classic appeal with earth textures like brick, white oak, and leather.
Inspired by the surrounding beaches, vineyards, and ranchlands, the hotel is crafted with a palette of natural colors and materials throughout. Each of its 78 accommodations is lined with white oak floors, and furnished with local artwork, leather- brass sconces, handwoven rugs, and playful pouf ottomans. Sliding glass doors are attached to each suite, leading to outdoor terraces.
Amenities like the Wine Library and rooftop terrace are highlights of nearly 10,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor event spaces. The Seven Sisters Ballroom is framed with tall French doors leading to outdoor terraces. The new outpost also features an onsite spa, the SOL, comprising a tranquil garden courtyard and bohemian-inspired atmosphere.
