JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts and Pearl Hospitality opened the 328-room JW Marriott Houston Downtown. Housed in the 104-year-old Samuel F. Carter Building, the hotel is the JW Marriott brand’s first adaptive reuse project in Texas and its second property in Houston.
Designed by Atlanta-based Gensler, the hotel is inspired by Houston’s rich heritage and modern attitude. It incorporates the building’s original design elements, including the hot-riveted steel beams, into the new spaces.
Interior spaces, conceptualized by Dallas-based Wilson Associates and MBCM Incorporated, fuse together the past and present in the design. Artists from around the world, including local artists from Texas, created 18 original works of art, including a 13-foot griffin sculpture and the first augmented sculpture in North America by Urbanscreen.
JW Marriott Houston Downtown offers 328 rooms, including executive and presidential suites, long-term apartment suites, and four wellness-inspired spa suites. The resort is also the first hotel worldwide to feature Spa by JW, a new spa concept by the JW Marriott brand developed in collaboration with JW Marriott brand partner and spa industry leader Aromatherapy Associates.
