Located in Ajman—the smallest of the seven emirates in the UAE—Fairmont Ajman has reopened following an extensive renovation by British design consultancy Godwin Austen Johnson Architects, headquartered in the UAE.
The newly opened, 5-Star hotel features an aesthetic rooted in local fishing culture and maritime trade. Textured patterns throughout the site reference the region’s traditional geometric designs while deconstructing them in a modern interpretation that is evident in the decorative screens and floor patterns located in the Cigar Lounge bar.
A neutral palette serves as the background for dark wood paneling and bold accent colors—such as azure, ruby, and amber—influenced by the local jewelry and fishing industries.
A double-height reception area gives way to a 13-level atrium awash in natural light. Concierge and reception desks sit against a timber-and-bronze backdrop that conceals administration areas, while a sizable, golden staircase serves as the lobby’s focal point. Locally based Ramesh Gallery curated jewel-inspired art to complement the hotel’s masculine and structured furnishings. The adjacent lounge area is situated beneath a detailed glass-beaded, figurative ceiling installation juxtaposed with a bespoke carpet.
Four color schemes—azurite and silver, rubies and antique copper, amber and light copper, and amethyst and gold—comprise guest accommodations, which stand out with Arabic-inspired metal fretwork.
The hotel’s F&B program includes eight venues. An all-day dining space, Spectrum was derived from the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul and features a blue-and-jade color palette amidst exaggerated columns and handpainted Iznik tiles. The restaurant is home to reconstituted, beige stone buffet counters and islands; octagonal red-glazed mosaics; brass lanterns; an oversized condiment table clad in a colorful, arabesque porcelain motif; and a private dining area enveloped in a decorative bronze chain curtain.
