After being closed since 2011, Marriott International will unveil the $22 million transformation of the former Hotel Lennox to the Courtyard by Marriott St. Louis Downtown/Convention Center Hotel this September.
The historic Hotel Lennox originally opened in 1929 and was designed by St. Louis architect Preston Bradshaw with a Renaissance Revival style. Upon reopening, the 165-suite hotel will be operated and owned by Maritz Wolff & Co.
“The Hotel Lennox had some amazing architectural elements and a rich history that makes the building truly unique and original. Today, it will offer downtown visitors an intimate boutique hotel option, with only eight rooms per floor—a dramatically different experience than one would find at most massive convention hotels,” says Patrick Lowery, principal of Maritz Wolff & Co.
Original features such as green marble wainscoting, wood paneling, and brass elevator lobby doors will be maintained and restored. Designed by locally based Lawrence Group, the design will be inspired by midcentury notables such as Charles and Ray Eames and Eero Saarinen, while artwork will be commissioned from well known area artists.
In addition to a fitness center, lobby theater, library, and more than 1,100-square feet of meeting space, guests will have direct access to the adjoining convention center.
