Set to overlook London’s Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch in Belgravia, the upcoming Peninsula London, from The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, held its ground-breaking ceremony last week. After gaining approval in late 2015 from the Westminster City Council, planning for the 190-key hotel, as well as 20-some residential apartments, began. UK-based Hopkins Architects will lead the design with a concept inspired by the area’s history and interiors by Peter Marino Architect.
In addition to the guestrooms, the space will feature shops, bars, restaurants, a ballroom, and a spa. The residential portion will include its own leisure facility and spa. Replacing the area’s 1950s and ‘60s offices, the property is currently scheduled to be complete in 2021.
