OMO, one of four brands under Hoshino Resorts, has launched its second property, OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka. Led by Tatsuro Sasaki and his eponymous firm, the hotel’s design reinterprets the history and traditions of Japan through a modern lens.
The lobby, called the OMO Base, provides guests with a laidback common area that promotes relaxation, while the casual OMO Café complements the neighborhood. Each of the 125 guestrooms are crafted in the style of yagura, a type of traditional Japanese wooden tower defined by high ceilings and a large window. Installed upon traditional tatami mat floors are small Japanese cypress staircases that lead to loft-style bedrooms. Shelving is built into walls and stairs for a playful, hideout-like feel. A sofa space is included in each room along with a bathroom appointed with Japanese-style soaking tubs.
