Joie de Vivre’s maiden New York property, Hotel 50 Bowery, has opened in New York’s Chinatown neighborhood. The 229-room hotel is infused with authenticity across all 21 floors courtesy of Wimberly Interiors.
“Through the mixing of gritty New York industrial materials and finishes, with subtle nods to Asian heritage, the hotel reflects the unique story that the neighborhood itself tells,” says Rebecca Weinstein, senior designer and associate for Wimberly Interiors and WATG.
Dimly lit interiors will be punctuated with large artwork from Beijing-based graffiti artist Dake Wong. Rooms will feature distressed oak floors and traditional blue and white colors injected across signature hand-plastered headboard walls. The contemporary design will feature subtle Asian touches, with artwork sourced from the Museum of Chinese in America. Floor-to-ceiling windows drench each guestroom in sunlight, with rooms north of the ninth floor framing unobstructed Manhattn skyline views.
Three Kings Restaurant Group is behind the three F&B options. The signature eatery Rice & Gold accommodates up to 220 diners, while the opium den-themed parlor lounge, the Green Lady, hosts live entertainment. The rooftop bar and lounge, the Crown, features a backdrop of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Installed on the second floor, the Gallery hosts the 1,500-square-foot exhibition the “Heart of Chinatown,” which explores the history of the area’s most storied blocks through artifacts and more. The exhibit sits adjacent to the 5,000-square-foot Atlantic Garden, named after the beer hall that once occupied the site in the 1850s. Additional indoor event and meeting space includes the Bowery Common and the Precious Coral Boardroom.
