The Hotel Bennett has opened at the corner of the historic Marion Square in Charleston, South Carolina. Originally the site of the west wing of the Charleston County Library, the luxurious retreat, named for owner Michael Bennett, operates as part of the Salamander Hotel & Resorts collection.
Local firm Schmitt Walker Architects and Lindsay Pope Brayfield Clifford & Associates were architect of record on the project. New York-based firm Fairfax and Sammons Architects served as the design architect for the hotel, while Atlanta-based studio Design Continuum handled the interiors.
The 179-room property is home to two-story signature restaurant Gabrielle Charleston, which is equipped with a sweeping alfresco terrace. In addition to a curated concierge club, the hotel spa comprises five treatment rooms, a relaxation area, manicure-pedicure studio, and a fitness center. The centerpiece of the hotel’s 12,000 square feet of event and meeting space is the 6,600-square-foot Crown Ballroom, which is outfitted with 30-foot-tall ceilings and expansive arched windows. A rooftop observatory room rounds out the onsite amenities.
