The Hotel Ritz, Madrid will undergo a $121 million restoration, courtesy of Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz with interiors by French firm Gilles & Boissier. Slated for a 2019 completion, the 153-key hotel will maintain its unique character and Belle Époque style while blending it with a contemporary aesthetic.
Since opening its doors in 1910 within the Golden Triangle of Art of the city, Hotel Ritz, Madrid, which was acquired in 2015 by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group as a joint venture with the Olayan Group, has been synonymous with luxury and comfort.
The 106 revamped guestrooms, including 47 suites, will offer a residential feel. One-of-a-kind specialty suites will feature design elements that pay homage to the hotel’s historic connections to the city as well as to Spanish culture and art, while the more than 2,000-square-foot Royal Suite will boast views of Madrid and the Prado museum.
From the property’s own collection, crystal chandeliers, antique paintings, and sculptures will outfit public spaces as natural light pours in from the reinstated glass roof. The al fresco restaurant will be relocated for direct access to the terrace, and a new bar will be added to attract guests and locals alike. Meeting rooms will be updated with functionality top of mind and wellness amenities will include a new fitness center, indoor pool, and spa.
