A member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Valley Ho in downtown Scottsdale recently completed a $4 million renovation.
Having debuted in 1956, the historic property was originally reopened in 2005.
Anissa Mendil, director of interior architecture and design at Phoenix-based studio 3rd story, has now reimagined guestrooms in the original wings with midcentury-style interiors inspired by the hotel’s heritage.
Guestrooms feature a dark gray color at the entrance that transitions to a white hue punctuated by turquoise and orange accents. The technique pays homage to Frank Lloyd Wright, who mentored the hotel’s original architect, Edward Varney. Décor includes platform beds with tufted headboards, sheers paired with triangular starburst shapes that mirror the building’s exterior, metal starburst bathroom mirrors, round lounge chairs, and yellow eco-leather vanity stools. Walnut, such as in the beds and countertops, was added throughout to lend a sense of warmth.Â
Locally based designer Judith Testani of Testani Design Troupe also refurbished the ZuZu Lounge and hotel lobby with new décor and furnishings. In the lobby, for example, classic Draper chairs in navy blue complement a series of other contemporary pieces, while the ZuZu Lounge now features custom low pieces and new tables with integrated outlets.
