Hotel Weyanoke, the new boutique hotel concept in Farmville, Virginia, has reinvigorated a historic property in the city’s downtown. The 70-room unit reflects the artisanal spirit of the region through its design from Houston-based firms Hightower Collaborative Design and Hunter Mabry Design.
Although accented with modern amenities and technology, the design draws inspiration from the property’s century-long history. Midcentury décor flourishes alongside the historic architecture to establish a warm, residential ambiance. The light-filled lobby is outfitted four chandeliers from the 1920s that illuminate original marble floors as well as the original check-in desk. Many other original details are preserved onsite, including tin ceilings in the pizza café and expansive trimwork, windows, and doors. Pale gray velvet sofas are complemented by modular settees in soft pink tones. F&B options include Sassafras Coffee Bar, the causal café Effingham’s First Call, the rooftop terrace Catbird, and the fine-dining concept Campagna, which is also outfitted with an adjoining bar and lounge.
Neutral tones permeate across accommodations, complete with blond wood floors, sculptural armchairs in light gray and walnut accents, and woven area rugs. The tranquil aesthetic is perpetuated through unique artwork as well that is inspired by Virginia’s rich history and culture. Guestrooms and suites are spread two wings; 27 accommodations are housed within the original Historic Building, while the remaining 43 guestrooms and suites are located within the new Cumberland Wing.
