Suncani Hvar Hotels, a collection of upscale hotels on the Croatian island, has announced the opening of Riva Marina, Hvar Hotel, featuring a design by Oto Blaha. Reminiscent of a Mediterranean village, the concept nods to the property’s history as the former Hotel Kovačić against a backdrop of water views.
“Different details, such as old shutters on hotel walls create a fantastic look. We tried to make each room specific, through using a piece of antique furniture or storytelling items that are all carefully picked and placed. In this way, the building speaks and tell its story,” Blaha says. “Another detail is the gold branch that is placed on the wall above each bed, with the idea to sleep under ‘God’s quiet shadow,’ and Ernest Hemingway and his book The Old Man and The Sea, where each room door has a particular excerpt from the story that you can find on each room door near a flying sea gull.”
The 50-room boutique stone structure boasts high ceilings, colorful accents, and arched doorways. Upscale wellness offerings include a heated pool, sauna, and fitness center, which are available to guests at the nearby Adriana Hvar Spa Hotel.
