Hyatt has announced the launch of its newest West Coast unit, Mission Pacific Hotel, a JdV by Hyatt hotel, in the San Diego suburb of Oceanside Beach. The property has opened adjacent to another recently opened Hyatt property: the Seabird Resort, a Destination by Hyatt hotel. Both beachfront retreats feature architecture by locally based Delawie, while San Francisco-based EDG and local firm Bill Bocken Architecture & Interior Design oversaw the interior design for Mission Pacific and the Seabird, respectively.
A relaxed, coastal ambiance permeates the 161-room Mission Pacific Hotel in the form of soothing textures and gentle colors. “Oceanside is a quintessential California beach town with a popular surf break, and Mission Pacific takes pride of place as an oceanfront sanctuary with a relaxed sense of place and a creative vibe,” says EDG president and CEO Jennifer Johanson. “The design is laidback California modern with a comfortable residential feel, and features organic textures, natural materials, and a serene palette that feels right at home in the salt air.”
Beyond the indoor-outdoor lobby await numerous amenities, including a 24-hour fitness center, library, and 13,000 square feet of ocean-view function space, along with an eclectic F&B lineup. Designed by Studio Collective, signature eatery Valle features a private dining room and an expansive outdoor dining veranda overlooking the sea. The Rooftop at Mission Pacific—Oceanside’s first rooftop bar—invites guests to bask in sprawling views from lounge seating and the pool deck, while the breezy oceanfront café High/Low further immerses guests in the setting. Rounding out the onsite culinary options is Charlie’s, a decadent dessert bar that occupies the transformed Graves House, which was featured as a charming beach cottage in the 1986 classic Top Gun.

Nearby, the 226-room Seabird Resort evokes an authentic Southern California flair that is both refined and indulgent. “The main goal of the design was to create an iconic beachfront resort, one that places the emphasis on its powerful sense of place with its rich culture, history, and setting,” says Bill Bocken. “The design inspiration comes from the aesthetic of a great American seaside estate combined with the Seabird’s spectacular Southern California oceanfront location.”
The idyllic waterfront concept comprises Sunny’s Spa and Beauty Lounge, an expansive pooldeck, and a poolside cabana known as the Shelter Club. A library and nearly 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space is also featured onside. The resort also boasts a pair of F&B concepts, including cocktail venue the Shore Room and signature open-kitchen restaurant Piper, which was crafted by Los Angeles-based design studio Bells + Whistles. “Nothing is too serious or precious here, the design is intentionally much more of a whisper and a wink than a themed hotel design that screams for your attention,” Bocken adds. “The design references historical shingle style, but clearly executes them in a very new and fresh way.”
