InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced that the ANA InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa will arrive as the first luxury resort in Japan’s Oita Prefecture this August. The property will marry IHG’s signature contemporary style with elements influenced by Japan’s onsen heritage.
Local surroundings will inform much of the interior design, which will include details like bamboo elements crafted by local artists in all 89 accommodations. Spacious guestrooms will also be lined with natural materials to instill a sense of peace, while select suites or club rooms will be equipped with private, open-air baths.
An indoor public bath will also reinterpret the tradition of natural baths and hot springs in the region, while a heated infinity pool and luxury spa will further promote wellness offerings onsite. The top floor of the resort will be outfitted with F&B options including Elements—Atelier & Bar, which will feature a stylish bar in addition to the laidback dining room. The Gallery will serve as the resort’s nature-inspired meeting and events space as well. Beneath mesh ceilings, pillars composed of traditional Japanese paper will emit soft light while the carpeting throughout depicts a motif that recalls the wisps of steam that rise from Beppu’s iconic hot springs.
