Israeli hotel chain Isrotel has opened the Orient, Jerusalem, part of the brand’s Exclusive Collection. Once inhabited by the German Templar Society in the late 19th and early 20th century and formerly serving as a school for their community, the historic property was restored by architect Eyal Ziv in collaboration with Feign Architects.
HBA spearheaded the contemporary design, which pays homage to the city’s past through a material palette that includes high-quality stone, wood, tile, and glass. Accessible via a glass pavilion, the lobby is clad with an opulent, tapestry-lined ceiling. An elegant, earth-toned color palette in the 243 rooms juxtaposes fabric details including burnt sienna and azure. Intricate tiling and metallic finishes also span the bathrooms, a nod to the bathhouses of yesteryear.
Among the hotel’s public spaces is a small, interactive museum that explores the neighborhood’s heritage through a collection of artifacts sourced from the Templar era. The onsite spa houses two pools, private cabanas, and a rooftop infinity pool. Khan signature restaurant and a banquet hall equipped to serve up to 900 people are also included.
