The JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE has revealed a comprehensive renovation courtesy of the Santa Monica office of Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA). Updates impact the property’s 878 guestrooms and many of its public spaces, including the lobby atrium and the Glance lobby bar.
“This hotel is an icon of downtown Los Angeles,” says HBA designer Robert MacDonald. “We wanted to embrace the energy of that metropolitan environment, while also reflecting the forward-movement of an evolving city.”
The hotel’s central social hub, the Glance lobby bar, was revamped with new flooring and furnishings that complement a soft gray and taupe palette. Oversized seating has also been installed to maximize comfort. “California is also famous for its natural light, from soft morning glows to legendary sunsets, and that’s incorporated into the design, as well,” MacDonald adds. “Together, these informed our themes of motion, energy, and light.”
The 120-seat onsite eatery Savoca was also reimagined with an open layout characterized by abundant daylighting and bright décor. Terrazzo marble tabletops, booths adorned in coral-hued upholstery, and a sprawling floral mural on the rear wall infuse vibrancy across the restaurant as well.
Existing redwood finishes in each guestroom are complemented by rich, warm colors blended with soothing neutral tones. Purple hues and gilded accents add a luxe flair to the spaces against the backdrop of modern fabrics and finishes, including warm leather, brushed bronze, and frosted acrylic counterpoints. The theme of light and energy is further amplified via artwork depicting coastal imagery of Southern California.
