Kempinski Hotel Nay Pyi Taw has opened its Royal Pavilion to welcome President Barack Obama, who was visiting Myanmar for the inaugural Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in November.
The 15,000-square-foot Grand Royal Suite served as the stately home during the summit. The self-contained suite in the hotel’s Bagan Villa offers meeting and leisure facilities with security features.
Kempinski Nay Pyi Taw is the company’s first property in Myanmar. The new-build hotel features 141 rooms and suites housed within three one-story villas. The hotel offers the Rangoon Kitchen brasserie, two executive lounges, the Diplomat Bar, and a pool bar. Kempinski the Spa, with eight treatment suites, is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2015.
Kempinski has also signed for its second property in Myanmar, Kempinski Hotel Yangon, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2016. This colonial-style former state house will be converted into 229 rooms and suites, three restaurants, a lobby lounge, a rooftop bar, a grand ballroom, a swimming pool, and a Kempinski The Spa.
