In collaboration with JMI Realty, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has completed Hotel Van Zandt, its first property in Austin.
Conceived by New York-based MARKZEFF Design, the Rainey Street Historic District hotel offers accommodations and public spaces with Texas-style décor and antiques, wood and bronze accents, and references to the city’s iconic music scene.
The 319-room, including 41 suites, offers a living room and lobby with nook light fixtures inspired by musical instruments.
The property’s name nods to Isaac Van Zandt, the former Republic of Texas ambassador to the U.S.; and musician Townes Van Zandt, his third great-grandson. Townes’ son JT Van Zandt paid homage to this history with family-inspired artwork located on the hotel’s second floor.
Amenities include the signature Geraldine’s restaurant, which doubles as an entertainment venue; the ground-level Café 605; 12,000 square feet of function space; along with an outdoor terrace on the fourth floor that features a pool with cabanas and a bar overlooking Lady Bird Lake and the downtown skyline.
